Constance Spry, rule-breaker and legendary British floral decorator was born in England and educated in Ireland. During her early career, she worked for the Irish Women’s National Health Association, where she lectured on health and home care. Her life took a turn when she married an Irishman prone to violent outbursts, prompting her scandalous escape to Cumbria, England, with her son.
Glamorous and charming, this fiercely determined woman, was not one to let her setbacks get her down. In 1921, she became headmistress of a finishing school in East London, where she taught factory workers cookery, dressmaking and flower arranging.
