Myddelton House Gardens in Enfield, London, was home to Edward Augustus Bowles until his death in 1954. His influence endures, not least in the number of plants named for him. Consider Anemone ‘Bowles’s Pink’, Crocus sieberi ‘Bowles’s White’ and Galanthus plicatus ‘E. A. Bowles’.
Out in the Alpine Meadow, snowdrops, narcissus and camassia bring soft colour to early spring, along with two Plant Heritage National Collections of Crocus. Here, Myddelton’s head gardener, Richard Harmes, selects ten time-honoured favourite plants from Myddelton for guaranteed early flowers.
