You’ll soon discover that a wide variety of species thrives in conservatory conditions. Citrus trees are particularly rewarding, while olive trees, although happy outside in a sheltered, sunny spot, will do well in the conservatory in cooler months. Exotics, such as Brugmansia, Clivia, Mandevilla, Tibouchina, and evergreens, such as Cordyline, Yucca or Chamaerops should also grow without the need for additional heat – especially if kept quite dry.
For a colourful floral display, try trailing Bougainvillea, passionflower – particularly hardier varieties – and winter-flowering Mimosa. Alternatively potted ‘Paperwhite’ daffodils, Azalea, Cyclamen, and hyacinths add a splash of winter colour. Lush banana trees, structural palms and succulents add a tropical touch all year round.
