The Ellis family of Vienna, Georgia, has been growing pecans almost as long as the Ellis family of Fort Deposit, Alabama, has been shelling them. The two families are not related, but they do share a commitment to their family-run businesses and to the pecan industry. Irene and Marvin Ellis purchased their first pecan grove in 1944, and today their son, Elliott, and grandsons Mike, Brad, and Keith manage 1,000 acres of pecan trees 109 miles north of the Florida state line on Interstate 75.
