BlackCat an innovative 50 metre catamaran has been drawn up thanks to Mitch Booth’s entrepreneurship. Mitch Booth is a former Olympic sailing contender and America Cup skipper. Malcolm McKeo’s famed pen was called upon to carry out design project work.The concept entails a cutting edge state of the art design specially conceived to sail the seven seas. A multihull configuration was the obvious choice due to its greater stability specially when lying to an anchor when compared to a mono hull and for its limited draught and for its interior volumes that are equalled by bigger yachts only. Crossing the Atlantic ocean is for most Mediterranean yachtsmen a dreamlike adventure. ADMIRAL GETS OFF TO A GOOD START IN 2016 - A good start of the year for Admiral. The Italian Sea Group’s shipyard launched “Quinta Essentia” the first 55 metre in the course of March last and is Marina di Carrara yard’s largest so far.This 55 metre yacht sports hybrid propulsion and slots into the E Motion section where a pair of traditional engines interact with an innovative electric system. Still in March Admiral signed a sales contract for a new 63 metre which is scheduled for delivery to a well known and experienced owner in 2019. “Sussurro” is the concept project for a sailing boat which privileges simplicity. Notwithstanding an LOA of 40 metres the “Sussurro” is equipped with state of the art automatic devices which translate in easy “shorthanded” sailing, expressed in conventional terms. Without wanting to offend anyone, we could say that Royal Huisman are a legendary yard, builders of some of the most amazing yachts ever, especially when in comes to sail. At the next Monaco Yacht Show Mondomarine will take its 60 metre, its top-of-the-range yacht and the largest hull it has built to-date, with interiors and exteriors by Luca Dini, and the Hot Lab 50 metre, the hull of which is a bright Ferrari red. The President of the Society’s demolition yard was Luciano Lotti who set about the conversion systematically, from a space dedicated to hard work into a luxury resort for ever more demanding clients and their luxury collectibles. The first model is currently being built at the company’s Cattolica premises so as to make it to its official debut at the next CannesYachting Festival. This S581 concept is light and is fast. It is something totally unprecedented for the Sestri Ponente shipyard which has been totally dedicated to building large ocean crossing motor yachts up until now and endowed with considerable ranges at econ. speeds which are not exactly high. The advantages of multihulls are well known: in the first place, greater hydrodynamic efficiency which translates into reduced consumption and higher speeds. It was not at random that the catamaran-trimaran configuration was chosen for Tûranor PlanetSolar, a 31 metre boat covered with over 500 square metres of solar panels which in 2012 became the first solar powered electric vessel to go round the world (figure 1). This year’s BR1 Fleet Show, the annual event organised by the Maltese company BR1 specialized in “Technical Management & Refitting” for yachts from 60 to 135 feet took place from 16 to 19 May at Villa Igiea Marina in Palermo. The purpose of the event, of which this year’s is the second edition, is to present to brokers affiliated to My-Ba the yachts managed by BR1, with on-board visits and the possibility of actually living aboard throughout the show, so being able to judge the quality of both the yachts and their crews.
