The recent release of a report by the US Agency for International Development (USAid) paints a horrific picture of South Africa’s efforts to eliminate Trafficking In Persons (TIP).
The document was compiled in partnership with South Africa, the School of Human and Community Development at the University of the Witwatersrand, SA Laser Pulse, Purdue University, and Khulisa Management Services, supported by the Department of Science and Innovation.
It is a continuation of past studies and reports published that have highlighted the country’s slow efforts to clamp down on syndicates and individuals participating in illicit trafficking and violence.
It found that “South Africa is potentially awash with TIP data, much of which remains unexplored or undocumented due to overlapping operational, methodological, ideological, and socio-political factors”.
