In her article, Sisulu wrote that the most dangerous African today is the mentally colonised African who, when given leadership roles, are worse than the oppressor. “They have no African or pan-African inspired ideological grounding. Some are confused by foreign belief systems.”
The ANC distanced itself from her stance, saying hers was a personal view, with the organisation’s chairperson and Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, adamant she had done nothing wrong by expressing her opinion.
Asked to comment on the matter, Tyrone Seal, the spokesperson for Ramaphosa, said Minister Mondli Gungubele had dealt with the issue publicly. In a media briefing, Gungubele distanced the government from Sisulu’s comments, labelling them “recklessness of the highest order” as a gross misrepresentation of the Constitution.
