For 2024, I’ll be reorganising my home office to squeeze in extra desk spacenow that my daughter is often WFH. The hallway needs a fresh coat of paint ( just need to decide on a colour) and there’s a large pile of pictures ready and waiting for a gallery wall I’ve got planned. If you’ve a home wish list to tackle, there are plenty of ideas to inspire you in this issue, for jobs big and small. 1. Don’t forgot the fifth wall Painting the ceiling a colour other than white creates a cocooning effect that makes a room feel cosier. Pick an accent colour from your wallpaper and use this to paint the ceiling and coving. 2. Pick a focal point To ensure a maximalist scheme looks curated rather than chaotic, choose something for the eye to focus on, such as a bookcase or fireplace. For maximum impact, take a bold wallpaper across the whole wall, not just the chimney breast. 3. Leave no surface untouched Mantels, sideboards and shelving should all be filled with ornaments, trinkets and collections. Gather together items of different heights and shapes for an eclectic aesthetic. 4. Create balance with solid colours While a kaleidoscope of colour and an array of…
Pink has been on our interiors radar for the past few years, so it’s no wonder Dulux have named their 2024 Colour of the Year as Sweet Embrace, a delicate, powdery pink. Chosen thanks to its soothing qualities, Sweet Embrace is incredibly versatile. Use it in a tone-on-tone scheme, or team it with earthy brown and orange shades for a warming combo, or nature-inspired greens and blues for a calming effect.…

However, in order to get the size of house that we wanted, there were some compromises to be made – namely in the condition of the property. This place had been rented out for 20 years and the previous tenants had adapted some of the downstairs rooms due to mobility issues. We knew the house was going to need a lot of work, but it had some…
1 PICK THE BEST SPOT Position is likely to be dictated by the layout of the kitchen. Siting an island centrally often works best, but there needs to be sufficient space around it for traffic to flow freely in all directions. And try to keep the ‘work triangle’ of hob, sink and fridge fairly compact, to reduce too much back and forth. 2 THINK ABOUT AESTHETICS Keep the materials that the island is made from similar to those used across the rest of the kitchen if you want the piece to blend in. If you have wooden cabinets, then stick with a wooden island, or if you have granite or marble worktops, then install the same on the island to create a more consistent look. 3 CONSIDER COLOUR A kitchen…
