The time of the year has come and gone when we stay up late and make a mad dash to do it up real big. Though there are many major events throughout the year, none is bigger than the annual SEMA Show. Because it’s such a huge deal, the most talented folks usually get wrapped up in showing off their skills and pushing the envelope. For us magazine folk, things are a bit different. This past fall was absolutely insane for me because there were so many tasks to shuffle among. I have always been one for a lowered stance on my vehicles. So when I picked up this ’10 GMC a couple of years ago I already had been envisioning how it would look lowered from its factory ride height. Since my plans for the truck were for it to be a daily driver, even with the altitude adjustment, I also wanted to be able to tow and haul with it. Some planning was necessary on the suspension setup to allow the use of helper airbags to be able to handle a variety of loads. In addition to the suspension goodies, I also wanted to upgrade the factory brakes to improve overall stopping power. Continuing with our ’49 Chevy project, Cindy, we will now address the plumbing of the fuel system. Since the processes are nearly identical, we will also touch on the transmission lines. There are several types of fluid lines that can be made depending on specific needs. Determining factors such as line pressure and flow rate capabilities need to be considered first and foremost, with aesthetics coming second. When it comes to plumbing a vehicle, function should definitely come before form. The powerhouse for our project is a 5.7L V-8 engine out of an ’00 Chevrolet Camaro, commonly referred to as a LS engine. This engine operates at a specific fuel pressure, usually around 60 psi. Having a truck and towing a trailer with it is one thing, but having optimal stability and control of the trailer is another. Then to add some much needed secure storage for all of your towing supplies (or for other objects that must be stored out of the way) makes any towing trip that much easier. Having full control of any load you’re towing is a must. If your truck doesn’t sit like it’s supposed to, you can easily lose control and wreck your truck. A Rapturous Ram This ’99 5.9L Dodge Ram SLT was almost entirely built and painted in owner Darin McCollom’s home garage. Darin molded in ground effects and a roll pan with C5 Corvette-inspired exhaust and exhaust cutout created entirely out of steel according to Darin’s own vision. From the self-done cargo/brake light, bed stake pockets and tailgate handle to the shaved antenna, this ’99 Ram has seen nothing but painstaking attention all the way through to the bad build before you today.
