Not only is it the 50th anniversary of the set, but also of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the last NFL team to go undefeated throughout an entire season and finish it off with a Super Bowl victory. Memorabilia from the personal collection of Pro Football Hall of Famer Walter Payton highlights the 15th annual Super Bowl Live Auction hosted by Hunt Auctions and NFL Auction. The Feb. 11 auction also features memorabilia from Hall of Famer Gino Marchetti and dozens of current and past NFL stars. Payton rushed for more than 16,000 yards and was a leader of the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl team. The annual Walter Payton Man of the Year Award was named after the 1993 Hall of Famer following his passing in 1999. THE HOBBY IS THE PEOPLE My last column focused on card shops and their importance to the hobby. There's just something about an in-person transaction or even a hobby conversation that can't be replicated online. A card show holds the same sentiment for me. Maybe I'm biased having worked the show circuit at the age of 13 and setting up as a dealer at 15, but I think most agree that the anticipation and adrenaline of attending a card show is hard to replicate. A card show is a great place for hobbyists no matter what hat you wear. You have a large room with people who are passionate about the same thing. Over the past few years, the leaders of the hobby’s young QB brigade have been Patrick Mahomes II and Josh Allen. Joe Burrow may have stepped into their stratosphere on Jan. 22, 2023. That was the day he outdueled Allen in the AFC Divisional playoff game, when his Bengals went to Buffalo and beat the Bills decisively, 27-10.
