I HAVE a custom commercial Mauser ’98 being rebuilt in Tassie at the moment. It’s an all-out job, the worn-out 8x56 octagon barrel sleeved to 7x57mm, new low, claw mounts custom built to fit, new presentation grade stock, etc, etc.
Why am I doing this? Because I’m not dead yet, I guess is the answer. And I had a wonderful $1200 exhibition walnut blank from New Zealand lying about unused - my last decent rifle stock wood. (But I do have one just-as-good shotgun blank in the safe!). I hope one day to shoot a deer with this light-weight sporter but until then, well, I can dream can’t I?
