In all my years as a hostess, I find there’s rarely a dessert that pleases the crowd quite like a good old-fashioned Southern pound cake. So for our September cover, we developed a delicious spin on this classic confection by adding an apple butter swirl. I dearly love to sit around the table with my friends from church or my sister, Janice, and share a slice of cake and coffee while catching up on life. One of my favorite stories to tell is of Grandmother’s Buttons (page 21), based in my daughter-in-law’s hometown of St. Francisville, Louisiana.
