I just love collecting things. In fact, I have collections of collections. There is something wonderful about surrounding yourself with things that delight you. Such are my samplers, quilts, fabrics, and blue and white dishes. There is just no end to it! This year’s fashion trends have brought the brooch back into the limelight. As I watched the younger women buying these sparklers and older women bringing their pins out of retirement, I thought back to the brooches my mother gave to me. A special treat for a special someone Cheese Fondue 1/2 cup milk 1 pound shredded white American cheese 3 ounces cream cheese, cubed 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/2 cup water 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg • In medium saucepan, combine milk, white American cheese, cream cheese, and flour. Stir constantly over medium heat until cheeses have melted and thickened. Gradually add water and continue stirring until sauce reaches desired consistency. Doris’ affinity—and appreciation—for the finer accoutrements of living were instilled in her from birth.
