Tell us about the inspiration behind Impermanence. Inspired by Japan’s art of flower arranging, ikebana, and its philosophy of wabi-sabi (embracing the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete), we have created this year’s Impermanence collection, comprising six botanical compositions frozen in their evanescent beauty. Each of them, from Composition N°6—the lightest—to Composition N°1—the darkest—embodies the gradual vanishing of nature. Light is the common thread running through the collection; initially omnipresent, it fades by degrees, dwindling away into a pitch-blackness that suggests the end of a natural cycle. These six compositions illustrate nature’s fleetingness, shifting from light to shadow to underscore its preciousness.
