Since its founding in Speyside, Scotland, in 1824, The Macallan has had a close relationship with nature—after all, whisky, with its key ingredients being water, barley and yeast, comes from nature. Fittingly, The Macallan’s global creative director Jaume Ferras wanted to capture the house’s nature culture with the world’s first The Macallan House at Raffles Singapore.
Taking inspiration from the Speyside distillery, Ferras worked with renowned architect Jamie Fobert (who redesigned the historic Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice) to bring the distillery experience to the 3,000‑square‑feet multisensory space. “We didn’t want to copy and paste what we have in Scotland,” he shares, so he came up with six design codes, namely copper walls, the colour red, Albariza stones, waved walls, oak flooring and collaboration pieces, that pay tribute to the…
