Not all white dials are created equally. Horological connoisseurs will tell you that a white enamel dial is instantly recognisable by its milky, lustrous hue, enhanced only by the level of savoir faire and patience demonstrated by artisans who have mastered the art of enamelling. Essentially, a grand feu enamel dial consists of pigmented powdered glass fired multiple times at high temperatures until the colour is set. It is a long, tedious process, as the skilled artisan needs to know the exact moment the dial should be removed from the oven so as not to overcook it.
