THERE ARE BAGS, AND THEN there are bags. This is the latter. Delvaux, founded by Charles Delvaux in Brussels in 1829, is notable for its exceptional leather goods and loyal fans in the Belgian royal court in the 19th century. The architectural handbags are distinctive in their geometrical shapes, but they were not always instantly recognisable outside a closed circle of sophisticates.
Then the brand signed a new investor and opened points of sale in Paris, London, the US, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan. Yes, more celebrities and tastemakers have been spotted toting Delvaux, but artistic director Christina Zeller is loathe to pursue It bag status for the brand.
