Michael Ong and Jeremy Tay almost need no introduction—the co-founders of Prestige Global Designs are widely recognised as two of Singapore’s leading interior designers. Their multi-award winning practice is regularly called upon by the rich, famous, and discerning looking for a new interior scheme. With walls that were “cracking and falling apart”, this house was in dire need of a renovation. The homeowners whom have been living in this residence since 2000, wanted a change as well to suit their changing needs and lifestyles. They only had one main request for Kelvin Bing, the founder of Renaissance Planners & Designers—for an energy-efficient design that could combat the heat of the tropics. When it comes to the refurbishing of a historic house, there is as much to love as there is to adapt. Located within the Île-de-France region in France, the chateau was formerly decorated with objets d’art and antique furniture that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries; pieces that however, no longer fit the needs of its current homeowners. “What should an interior in Miami look like today? I guess nobody knows,” muses Paris-based interior designer Jean-Louis Deniot. VISUAL HARMONY

TOPIC DESIGN STUDIO Led by founder Tan Sze Ling,the firm prides its personalised approach to design, while blending its diverse influences into tableaus of visual harmony. COLOUR PLAY Taking inspiration from a watercolour painting by Lauretta Vinciarelli, Topic Design Studio’s artwork depicts the painting in Cubist form, using Arova laminates from the Quartzo and Solid Colours collections in gradient shades to mimic spatial depth and create an overall sense of balance. Contrasting laminates from the Metallics and Solid Colours collections also add to the artwork’s striking aesthetic. “The metallic laminates offer a mysterious feel—they’re solid yet reflective—hence mirroring the colours of the solid laminates around it in an interesting way,” says Tan. HERMÈS COLOUR PLAY A flash of bold hues greeted the guests of Hermès, which showcased its home collection in an impressive purpose-built exhibition at La Permanente. The museum housed soaring structures clad in 150,000 handmade glazed tiles from Morocco rendered in shades of turquoise, amber, sea green, sienna and more. The imposing architecture, which took a month to construct for the week-long exhibition, was meant to contrast the whimsical, detail-oriented pieces that make up this year’s collection. “We wanted to work with scale. Most of the pieces this year are small so we created towering structures; the height is emphasised by the use of stairs in the scenography,” says Charlotte Macaux Perelman, co-artistic director at Hermès Maison. Tree of Life

Looking at this unconventional structure, a treehouse might be the first impression to spring to mind. From its sloping floors to the undulating walls, the gallery is exceptional in many ways. Founded by Guggenheim successor Santiago Rumney Guggenheim and designed by Jorge Eduardo Neira Serkel, the IK Lab gallery is set within the Azulik resort in Tulum, Mexico, and built primarily with cement and locally-sourced Bejuco wood. The gallery basks in natural light, with its organic shape running almost counter to the conventional methodology of displaying art.
