Most canine visitors to the Tomlinson household are gundogs of one sort or another, and what they all have in common are floppy ears. Okay, some may be much more floppy than others, but there’s not a single breed of gundog with upstanding, pointed ears. Yet there’s no wild canid, be it wolf, coyote, jackal or fox, that has anything other than pointed ears.
I was reminded of this by an unusual visitor, a Cardigan Welsh corgi bitch, that stayed here recently. Appropriately named Cardi, she is a French-bred Cardigan that belongs to my niece, who lives in Normandy.
