EJ CHURCHILL
While most case labels are made from paper, card or leather, these are of ivorine construction, held in place by small brass pins. They are specific to one maker and one type of gun. The maker is EJ Churchill, which began promoting a new type of game gun around the time of World War I.
With its distinctive stock, often with swept comb, and short 25in barrels, as well as its light weight, it caused a great deal of excitement and enabled Churchill to prosper in the 1930s.
The first of the labels simply states Churchill’s name and the Orange Street address, off Leicester Square. The other promotes the unique case design — the V C, or Very Compact, case.
