A There is one species of roe found in Europe, whose scientific name is Capreolus capreolus. However, there are then three phenotypes of the animal recognised.
There is the European roe deer, which is Capreolus capreolus capreolus, the Andalusian roe deer, which is Capreolus capreolus garganta, and the Italian roe deer, which is Capreolus capreolus italicus. As the names would suggest, the latter two are regional, with one found in Spain and the other in Italy.
