How to spot it and where to find it: As its name suggests, the common rock-rose likes sunny chalk grassland, cliffs and rocks. A low-growing, creeping, evergreen shrub with tiny, oval leaves, it produces massing clusters of yellow saucer-shaped flowers from May to September. It has been cultivated as a garden plant, with some having pink or orange flowers, though in the wild its blooms are always that rich, glowing yellow.
