As a shooter who has an interest in guns, especially English shotguns, I was always aware that some of the best were made in London.
I have to admit that there was, and I think still is within the trade, a certain amount of snobbery around any provincial English names that weren’t immediately recognisable. It wasn’t until I learned a whole lot more about this industry, and talked to some of the great gunmakers, that I realised how the English gunmaking trade was built by each individual engineer, stocker, actioner, finisher, inventor and retailer, many of whom originated in Birmingham.
