How to spot it and where to find it: This herb is found in a wide range of habitats, such as woodland edges and clearings, hedgerows, roadside verges, riverbanks and waste ground. A biennial, in the first year of growth, its broad, heart-shaped leaves appear in rosettes close to the ground. The second-year leaves are more arrow-like. From April, groups of tiny, white flowers grow from the top of a flower spike.
