How to spot it and where to find it: At this point in the year, you may hear yellow rattle rather than see its pretty flowers. As the blooms die back, the plant produces inflated seed pods, inside which the tiny seeds rattle. The tube-like flowers appear May to September and the serrated leaves sprout on opposite sides of the stem, which has dark spots. It is found in nutrient-poor pastures, hay meadows, flushes in lowland and upland grasslands, on roadsides and waste ground.
