How to spot it and where to find it: The yellow, nodding blooms of the cowslip were once dotted through hay meadows, ancient woodlands and hedgerows, but it is less common now because of the loss of those traditional habitats. Apart from the egg-yolk yellow flowers, the cowslip can be identified by its rosette of crinkled, tongue-like, dark green leaves that grow low to the ground. It flowers from April to May.
