Three keepers who between them have notched up more than 210 years of service were presented with National Gamekeepers’ Organisation (NGO) long service awards at the Midland Game Fair in September.
The three recipients — David Wharton, 57, Tony Goodhew, 67, and William Young, 79, received a specially cast medal and a framed certificate from Liam Bell, chairman of the NGO. A fourth winner, Martin Moyers, 62, was unable to attend in person.
Mr Bell said: “It was fascinating to read the résumé of the keepers and the references from their past and present employers about the tremendous commitment these individuals have made to keepering and to managing our countryside.
