SPAIN The Spanish had five modified Knox class frigates built, and commissioned them as the Baleares class. The warships, Baleares, Andalucia, Cataluña, Asturias and Extremaura had the American layout reorganised with a Mk 22 launcher replacing the Sea Sparrow missile launcher. These five ships were built by Navantia between 1970 and 1971. They were to serve the Spanish Navy for over three decades with the five ships decomm, and were decommissioned between 2004 and 2009, having been replaced by F-100 destroyers.
CHINA Several of the decommissioned hulls were sold abroad, with eight being transferred to the Republic of China Navy (ROCN) (Taiwan): Robert E Peary, Joseph Hewes, Aylwin, Cook, Brewton, Kirk, Barbey and Valdez.
