TREASURY WINE ESTATES HAS ANnounced an expansion of its partnership with second-ranked U.S. distributor Republic National Distributing Co. (RNDC). The two companies’ new long-term deal includes nine markets, including California, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Mississippi, Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska. TWE and RNDC were already linked in Michigan, Georgia, and New Mexico. With the new agreement, RNDC will now handle more than one-third of Treasury’s U.S. business. Harvey Purchese, who had been serving as interim managing director for the U.S., will now resume his role as senior vice president, marketing, North America. Basford was appointed by Jonathan Yusen, who was recently promoted to chief officer, network distribution companies at William Grant & Sons globally. PERNOD RICARD HAS POSTED THIRD quarter sales up 19% on an organic basis, leading its year-to-date revenues to return to positive territory. For the nine months ending in March, the drinks giant’s sales grew 1.7% organically to €6.94 billion ($8.37b), led by 6% growth in the U.S. and a 34% surge in China. Pernod says it continues to see “robust mid-single digit growth” in the U.S., driven by the booming off-premise sector and its Glenlivet, Malibu, and Kahlua brands, as well as its Tequila and American whiskey portfolios. AB INBEV HAS NAMED MICHEL Doukeris as its global CEO, effective on July 1. Doukeris is currently president of AB-InBev’s North America zone. A successor for that role will be named before July 1. Prior to leading the North America zone, Doukeris was the company’s global chief sales officer. Prior to that, he was president of the Asia Pacific zone, where he’s credited with accelerating top line, volume, and EBITDA growth and implementing the brewer’s High End division. Doukeris succeeds Carlos Brito, who is stepping down after 15 years as CEO and 32 years with the company. AFTER A CHALLENGING YEAR WEATHering the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rémy Cointreau posted organic sales up 1.8% to $1.26 billion (€1.04b) for its fiscal year ended March 2021. While its year-end results only showed moderate growth, the company saw organic growth jump 15.1% in the fourth quarter, pointing to a brighter future as more markets fully reopen and the pandemic wanes. CANADIAN CANNABIS PRODUCER Canopy Growth has partnered with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to bring its CBD drinks portfolio to the U.S. The partnership begins with Quatreau, Canopy Growth’s top-selling CBD drink in Canada, which recently launched stateside. Quatreau is a line of sparkling water with four flavors: Cucumber & Mint, Passionfruit & Guava, Blueberry & Acai, and Ginger & Lime, all containing 20mg of CBD and retailing for $4 a 12-ounce can.
