To me, Wellington has always been just another city. But flying in for a four day weekend, to stay with Churton Park-based friends, I discovered that the capital is much more than Parliament, Te Papa and the cable car. Ranges, coastline, islands … I biked and walked Wellington’s wild side.
Day one Skyline Walkway
The 13km Skyline Walkway runs north-south between Johnsonville and Karori taking in Wellington’s highest peaks, Mt. Makara and Mt. Kaukau. A soaring kākā, red feathers distinctive, screeches as we enter the bush at its southern end on Makara Road.
