THE RENOVATION WAS ALREADY IN full swing when Sydney homeowner Sandra contacted Chloe Matters to take over the design side of her project. The reno was only intended to be a small refresh but blossomed into major work, with builders from Jcorp Construction at the helm. But that special interior design perspective was needed and so Chloe worked her magic. Joining a process that was already in progress wasn’t easy, but in the end it made all the difference. “I’VE REALLY BEEN DRAWN TO inner-city terraces, I think they have so much more character and soul than a new-build apartment,” says Sam Eggleton. His inner-Sydney cottage certainly ticks the character box. Built around 1849, it was first used as accommodation for the wardens of the Darlinghurst jail, before becoming an active sex-worker premises during the area’s time as the city’s famous red light district.
