→ Avanti West Coast driver trainer and assessor Girish Jani, 67, has retired after completing his last service for the train operator on September 20, marking the end of a 50-year career on the railway. Mr Jani joined the railway in September 1974, aged 17 and nine months, as a secondman based at Stonebridge Park, before progressing to become a driver. He later began working passenger services out of London Euston and has worked as a mentor, instructor, deputy driver team manager and then 30 years as a driver team manager. His last turn was driving a Class 390 Pendolino from Crewe to London Euston, where family, friends and colleagues greeted him.
