Cox Media was founded in Dayton, OH, in 1898 by James M. Cox — later governor of Ohio — with the purchase of the Dayton Evening News. WHIO-AM, the company’s first radio station, launched in1935.
Today, Cox Media Group in Ohio includes the Dayton Daily News, Springfield News-Sun, the Journal-News of Butler and Warren Counties, WHIO-TV, Cox Digital Marketing, Dayton.com, and three radio stations: WHKO, WZLR, and WHIO-AM & FM. Overall, it employs almost 600 people and reaches more than 94.1 percent of the metro area weekly.
