This magnificent quilt was found lurking in the archives in a Homespun issue from more than 10 years ago. The colours and the blocks are intrinsically traditional, offering a timeless quilt design that’s just as relevant today as it was back then. The first border has been cleverly designed as a pieced first border where there would usually be just setting triangles. The design for this quilt evolved with the challenge to create a medallion-style quilt. Lyn wanted to incorporate a variety of techniques, in a whimsical, bright fantasy style. The medallion centre is based on a New York Beauty block, and is foundation pieced. The appliquéd ring, little houses and flowers are applied with fusible web and secured with raw-edge appliqué, and the outside border is English paper piecing. This project can be easily made with a stack of fat quarters and a background fabric – have fun!
