After seven years of hosting The Daily Show on Comedy Central, a hit comedy show produced in the US but with global reach, South African-born comedian Trevor Noah has announced plans to leave and focus on his stand-up comedy. During his tenure as host of the political satire series, which he took over from the revered Jon Stewart, Noah has offered important takes on issues in the US – and the world. Considering that the late-night television satire scene in the US remains populated by white men, Noah has offered unique “black” African insights into issues that affect black Americans. He has also been lucid in talking about issues that have an effect on Africa and Africans. Noah’s knowledge of Africa and African politics has helped him demonstrate that there…
IN LATE April, Marilyn Monroe’s life and death were the subject of the Netflix documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, which explored a handful of conspiracy theories regarding her relationships with President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert. The following week, Kim Kardashian made headlines around the world when she arrived at the Met Gala – so fashionably late as to be the very last guest on the scene – wearing the dress Monroe wore to sing Happy Birthday to Kennedy in 1962. The week after that, Monroe’s famed Andy Warhol portrait sold for a record-shattering $195 million at a Christie’s auction. With the addition of Blonde, the new Andrew Dominik film (based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates) on Netflix,…
Rapper and fashion entrepreneur Kanye West, pictured, is facing a backlash after he was pictured wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt, during his latest fashion show at a surprise Yeezy show in Paris. Showcasing his Season 9 collection, West gave a speech in front of a large audience in a shirt emblazoned with the Pope’s face on the front, and the controversial “White Lives Matter” slogan at the back. Rapper Jaden Smith, who’s the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, is said to have left the show after seeing the shirt. He later went on to Tweet, “I don’t care who it is, if I don’t feel the message I’m out.” Doubling down on his stance, West took to his Instagram stories on Tuesday morning to further flame the…

The film was set in a monastery in 1952 and told the story of a priest and a nun – played by Demian Bichir and Farmiga respectively – attempting to fight the nun’s evil possessions. The movie became the highest-grossing instalment in the Conjuring franchise. Details for the sequel are being kept under…
Stella McCartney hopes people didn’t notice she has a sustainable collection. The 51-year-old star has reflected on her recent Paris Fashion Week catwalk show, putting her spring-summer 2023 designs on display, including designs featuring regenerative cotton and leather alternatives. She told The Guardian newspaper: “If I’m doing my job right, you shouldn’t see any of the sustainability. “It should just look like the most luxurious, glamorous show. I don’t want it to look like sustainable fashion – I want it to look sexy and effortless and easy.” However, she did want to catch the eye of Bernard Arnault – the third richest man in the world and both chief executive and chairperson of LVMH – as he sat in the front row. She explained: “I have this incredible seat at…
