Cillian Murphy is “not interested” in being in a romantic comedy. The Peaky Blinders star loves taking on roles in “melancholic” pieces – whether theatre, television or movies – as he prefers his work to explore more “knotty” and “uncomfortable” themes. The 45-year-old actor told Esquire magazine: “I’ve always been interested in stuff that is – I don’t want to say on the darker side, because that’s too reductive – the melancholic, or the ambiguous, or the more transgressive. That, to me, is drama. That is where the real stuff is to be mined. I’m not interested in romantic comedies. I’m just not. All the great films or literature or plays, they’re the things I’m interested in. “That’s not to say they can’t be funny: the playwright Samuel Beckett is…
The 25-year-old actress Zendaya Coleman has spoken out to defend her show, after anti-drug education group D.A.R.E. slammed the programme for “glorifying” substance abuse and “misguidedly and erroneously” depicting high school drug use. Zendaya insisted the show has set out to reassure viewers they are not “alone” in their struggles, but the show never encouraged the audience to live their lives in a particular way. She told Entertainment Weekly: “Our show is in no way a moral tale to teach people how to live their life or what they should be doing. If anything, the feeling behind Euphoria, or whatever we have always been trying to do with it, is to hopefully help people feel a bit less alone in their experience and pain. And maybe feel they’re not the…

I find myself so fascinated by people who behave badly and almost get away with it, as much as I find wealthy people fascinating. I guess it has to do with how audacious scammers are and how they have the guts to hoodwink people and get away with it for a long time. The conversation around the hit Netflix documentary The Tinder Swindler has been raging for more than a week. People just can’t get enough of it, from those blaming the women for being gullible to those saying Simon Leviev was very smart and his victims should have known better. I have tuned in…
