AS WE continue celebrating Women’s Month, it is timely to reflect on the importance of education and empowerment of our daughters.
Education is a basic human right. The education of every child, and development of their personality, talents, mental and physical abilities and spiritual qualities to their fullest potential, is the right of every child.
However, according to recent UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization estimates, across the world 132 million girls are out of school, including 34.3 million of primary school age, 30 million of lower-secondary age, and 67.4 million of upper-secondary school age. Many girls who enter school do not complete it.
