Magashule headed for showdown with ANC NTOMBI NKOSI ntombi.nkosi@inl.co.za ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule is headed for a showdown with the top brass of the party after he lodged an urgent court application to challenge his suspension. Magashule was asked by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to apologise to the party for an unwarranted suspension letter against President Cyril Ramaphosa, an action which the NEC has described as gross misconduct. If Magashule fails to apologise, the NEC will institute disciplinary charges against him. Magashule was suspended after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting last week, followed by a three-day special NEC meeting held last weekend. According to the project, which specialises in legal issues, the five-member court has three vacancies. The project, which keeps a close watch on matters in the judiciary, posed the question whether electoral democracy would be able to survive the pandemic. Judges Matter said that along with the Electoral Commission is South Africa, the Electoral Court was responsible for the smooth operation of the electoral system. TRANSPORT Bolt drivers say they live in fear JONISAYI MAROMO JACQUES NAUDE African News Agency (ANA) DESPITE the highly publicised attacks and some murders of e-hailing cab drivers in different parts of South Africa in the past, the operators continue to work in fear, blaming authorities for not doing enough to protect them. Earlier this month, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department rescued a driver affiliated to the e-hailing cab platform Bolt from the boot of his Nissan Almera, which was being stripped after he had been hijacked. The hijackers escaped. Last month, the Durban e-Hailing Association raised concerns about the safety of e-hailing drivers in the city and nearby townships. HIGHWAY PATROL Man arrested for BMW parts theft THE GAUTENG Highway Patrol recovered BMW new parts worth an estimate of R28 million and arrested one suspect for possession of stolen property. The incident happened on Thursday evening. The members were following information, which led to the recovery of the BMW new parts that had been reported stolen from Pretoria. The case was reported to Akasia SAPS and investigated. The suspect was traced and eventually found in one of the recycling places in Bramley, north-east of Johannesburg. He was arrested immediately. The preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen parts were from BMW Rosslyn in Pretoria. The stock was released to the owners “via SAPS processes”, according to a police statement.
