Farm tensions on the rise THE NATIONAL African Farmers Union of South Africa has voiced concerns regarding the recent attacks on farmworkers in Mpumalanga. The union said it was worrying that the attacks against workers perpetrated by some farmers was on the rise. This was after fatal shooting of two farm dwellers and a third man injured on a farm in Mkhondo in the Gert Sibande District, Mpumalanga. Orchard Klingenberg, 53, Danie Malan, 39, Cornelius Greyling, 25, and Ignatius Steinberg were arrested last Friday after they allegedly gunned down the two job-seekers. Absa to close R86bn money market fund ABSA is shutting down its R86 billion Absa Money Market Fund, giving investors until July 1 to transfer their investment to another Absa unit trust fund. If investors don’t voluntarily do the transfer by the cut-off date, their investments will be automatically transferred to an Absa investment bank account. The government finally responded this week to the trade unions representing public servants’ demands for a consumer price index (CPI), which is projected to be 3.1%, plus 4% pay hike, among other benefits. In its response, the government offered its employees a “0%” wage increase for the 2021/22 financial year. The 27-year-old speedster clocked 9.99 seconds to take the gold medal in Pretoria, closely followed by his Gauteng North provincial teammate Gift Leotlela, who grabbed the silver in 10.16.
