In the 1880s, pharmacist Charles Alderton created Dr Pepper at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, TX, inspired by the fruit syrup smells that surrounded him. I don’t usually wear much makeup but want to do it up for a party. What should I focus on? Eyebrows frame your face, so they are incredibly important! To make sure they’re the right shape, place a brow brush vertically against your tear duct. Your brow should begin where the brush crosses it. The Lodge was never meant to be the set for a TV show, but over time it became that—and a bona fide tourist destination, too: Thousands of visitors drive out to see it every year. Walking into Daniel Mathis’s apartment in downtown Oklahoma City feels like visiting a mini museum. As a kid, the Mississippi native collected rocks and key rings. Shiny copper trees, tin fluted circles, colorful plastic snowmen… cookie cutters come in endless forms, and if you’re like many Americans, you have at least a few of them tucked away in your kitchen somewhere. The cookie cutters we know today took shape in the 1700s, when European tinsmiths started turning scrap metal into circles, squares and hearts. The metal cutters pierced dough better than their wooden predecessors, and they were much cheaper to make. Early American tinsmiths carried on the trade, and by the mid-1800s companies were mass-producing cutters in all shapes and sizes. The Nacogdoches, TX–based communications professor once asked Dr Pepper headquarters about a bottle he found, and they referred him to himself! Jim started collecting Dr Pepper memorabilia in the 1970s when he noticed that most soda collectors focused on Coca-Cola.
