In Oklahoma, the change of seasons is hard to miss. Each new time of year is ushered in with unmistakable drama and fanfare, and I always enjoy saying goodbye to the old and settling in to the new. Tile Ree’s Pinterest page is filled with green rooms and emerald tile, so she had plenty of design inspiration when she was creating the look for this bathroom in The Boarding House, her Pawhuska inn. Asparagus has a special place in my heart: I love it so much that I actually tried planting it in my garden, but then I realized it takes three years to grow. I’m much too impatient for that! Scent is such a personal thing, but I’m a firm believer that when you take that first whiff, you instantly know if a fragrance is for you. First impressions are as important for businesses as they are for people, so Ree thought long and hard about the sign for The Mercantile, her general store and restaurant. The building is more than 100 years old, and to honor its history, Ree wanted to make sure the neon sign was reminiscent of the ones that once lit up Pawhuska. Choosing the design was easy; picking the color scheme was another story. “I wanted to be tasteful and understated, so I was looking at different shades of white,” she says. Rise and Shine Walter wakes up at 6 a.m. to the sound of Ree making coffee. He gives his face a good shake, then has a nice 15-minute stretch. To the Lodge! Ladd gives Walter a ride to the Lodge, where he greets visitors like little Tinslee from Oklahoma (pictured here). This couch is his third favorite spot for snoozing, after his real bed and the sofa in the mudroom at home.
