Our ranch is a working cattle ranch, but cows aren’t the only animals roaming the pasture. Ladd and his brother, Tim, provide sanctuary for mustangs as part of the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse and Burro Program. The national population of these beautiful creatures has boomed in the past few decades, so the government contracts with ranchers to keep horses on their property. This program prevents breeding—all our horses are female, which means there’s no hanky-panky going on—and gives the horses a safe place to live and graze.
