I met Michael Knight, 26, at university, where we were both studying International Wildlife Biology.
Friends at first, we got together in March 2010.
Both wild at heart, we travelled to South Africa and Indonesia to study while visiting wildlife reserves.
Graduating in 2011, we volunteered at South Essex Wildlife Hospital, while living with Mike’s parents – Reginald, 64, and Ann, 59. Mike got a job at Exmoor Zoo in August 2012, so I moved there with him and juggled temporary retail jobs with volunteer work.
‘If only we could run our own zoo,’ I sighed one night.
‘Together, we could make a go of it,’ Mike agreed excitedly.
