Launching hot on the heels of the Epson SureColour SC-P800, Canon’s new PRO-1000 goes into direct competition as a large-format desktop photo printer capable of A2 output (17x22 inches). Not to be taken lightly, the Canon is more than 50 per cent heavier than the Epson at 32kg, with a heavy-duty, industrial feel to its build quality.
Whereas the Epson runs on nine pigment-based inks, the Canon raises the bar to 11 pigment inks plus a ‘chroma optimizer’, intended to give an even finish on glossy media. The inks themselves include matte black, photo black, cyan, magenta, yellow, photo cyan, photo magenta, grey, photo grey, red and blue.
