In this video photographer Gavin Hoey shows you how to add warmth to a small home studio shoot by making use of a warm tone wooden background, fabric flooring and and orange colored gel. When we were building our house, our contractor often had a saying: “Cheap things end up being expensive.” He pointed out that if you buy something cheap, it’s often cheap because it’s lower quality, and it’s more likely to break or wear out faster. Then when it breaks, you’ll just have to spend more money to replace it with something better. In the long term, you’ll lose out if you always try to save money by settling for poor-quality goods simply because they cost less. A lot of photographers I know are a little bit like magpies (myself included!). We see shiny new gear on the market, and we want to buy it. New photography equipment is released almost every week, with upgrades to the kit we already have alongside innovative and interesting products that we think could make our lives easier or photographs better.
