What is a filter, and what does a filter do? Webster’s Dictionary defines “filter” as… just kidding, you know there’s no way I’m going to pull out that tired essay opening cliché on you, dear reader. Generally, a filter is an object or technique that you use to separate one thing from another. We use coffee filters to keep the grounds out of our life-giving liquid. We use air and water filters to keep dust, debris, and gunk out of the air we breathe and the water we drink.
