Savage Love I never thought I would live long enough to see an article about my favorite rifle, the Savage M219! That little gun is the ugly duckling of the rifle world that, with some TLC, can grow into a lovely, sexy swan! I have one each of the original four calibers in excellent condition, which I will preserve for posterity. However, I have several others with issues that have been treated to rechambering; resighting; and restocking, using high-grade Turkish walnut. They turn into the nicest kipplauf-style stalking rifles! Clete Davis, Illinois A Man’s Got to Know His Limitations I have been reading RifleShooter for many years now and have always enjoyed the many articles written by the various authors. Craig Boddington has always managed to write such interesting, thought-provoking…
LANDS & GROOVES VG2 stands for Vertical Grip. It’s Stocky’s Stocks’ flagship model in the company’s own line of carbon-fiber stocks. Offering modern features designed to support precision shooting, it’s made right here in the U.S. of A. In Florida, to be precise. Weight of the actual stock I tested is a scant 26 ounces. That, along with the excellent butt-stock and grip profile, is impressive. The square-sided for-end with shallow-arch bottom are likewise made to optimize precision capability when shooting from field positions. At the time of this writing, stocks are inletted for Remington 700-type actions only. However, you can get a VG2 in right- or left-hand and inletted for BDL or A5 bottom metal and with your choice of several different barrel channels so you can fit anything…

In 1958, Winchester filled one of the few remaining gaps in the big game cartridge lineup with the introduction of the .338 Win. Mag. Until then, hunters had to choose between one of the .30 calibers available at the time—.30-06, .300 H&H Mag. or the .300 Wby. Mag.—and the larger .375 H&H Mag. These cartridges covered a wide range of game, but all had their weaknesses. Some hunters who regularly pursued big bears or hunted in big bear country didn’t believe any .30 caliber was up to the task of stopping an enraged grizzly, especially given the limited bullet selection at the time. At the other end of the spectrum was the .375 H&H Mag., which offered ample stopping power but required a magnum-length action and couldn’t match the flatter…

RCBS’s new, refined version of its renowned Chargemaster just might be the most intuitive, capable, practical electronic powder charger ever made. Foremost among its many virtues is the “learn” technology it’s endowed with. The brain of the smart-dispenser analyzes how fast whatever propellant is in the hopper flows, as well as its propensity to overrun target charge weights, and then adapts. That’s right; it self-reprograms to minimize charge time and maximize accuracy. The Chargemaster Supreme is an electronic gunpowder dispenser built using monobody construction, a single flow tube, a touch-screen control interface and a hopper that holds about a pound of propellant. The body and the placement of the calibration weights and the shape and fit of the clear plastic cover that shields the working parts have been significantly updated…
