For most of my law enforcement career, I carried two knives: a small fixed blade that served as my primary weapon-retention and CQB tool, and a folder for cutting seatbelts, clothing, rope and other obstacles I might encounter in the field. The same principle applied for my SWAT gear, except the fighting knife was bigger.
