If you’re a fan of stabbing things with sharp blades and the exotic, far-eastern beauty of Japan, then you’re well served in this month’s reviews section, with both Rise of the Ronin and Assassin’s Creed Shadows rated. Unfortunately, though, these games end up with wildly differing scores, and that reason is largely down to the quality of their PC ports.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is, from a technical point of view, a triumph. Ubisoft’s Anvil engine drips with next-gen real-time ray-traced global illuminated gorgeousness. Stunning. Rise of the Ronin, though, has been a broken, unoptimised mess on PC for our reviewer, which is a damn shame as from a gameplay perspective it is strong. But that’s no good if the game is barely playable at times, is it? Disappointing.
