FIGHT!
The combat and movement is classic turn-based fare: move your units, then they engage, and the stronger party comes out on top. Anyone remotely familiar with a Firaxis game will grasp it instantly.
DOG SOLDIERS
The unusual unit types are where Wargroove differs from Advance Wars, which had mainly a variation of modern military unit types. Here, things are a little more fantastical, with dragons, the undead and the Floran race from Starbound. Also, dogs can fight.
ADVANCED ADVANCE WARS
Wargroove has its own map editor and will be modderfriendly, which is a key difference between Wargroove and Advance Wars. Likewise, it can be played in multiplayer online and locally offline, too.
